SOMERSET, NJ – Approximately 150 Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School students along with faculty and staff members stretched out their legs and participated in National Walk & Bike to School Day.

TEECS participates in the annual event, but this year it was scaled down, due to COVID restrictions.

“This year our group may have been small, but we were mighty,” TEECS Lead Person, Oguz Yildiz said in an email. “This is an annual tradition for the school that encourages the use of alternative forms of transportation.”

Families dropped students off at the Pierce Street entrance of the school, and they walked the property down a large driveway and ended at the school soccer field.

Students had the option to take breakfast back to their classroom to eat, and TEEC’s faculty and staff were served an appreciation breakfast.

“TEECS believes in the message of this event and the importance of a healthy community and planet,” Yildliz said.
