9th Grade Biology Lab

The 9th grade Biology students in Ms. Suarez’s class had the opportunity to conduct a two-day Frog Dissection Lab! Students had mixed feelings as they were excited for their first live dissection, while also feeling a bit nauseous and nervous about seeing real internal organs for the first time. Over the two days students were able to observe some unique amphibian structures (like thin/slimy skin for maximum gas exchange) and even some structures that are present in humans too (heart, lungs, liver, stomach, intestines, etc). The objective of the lab was for students to identify the gender of the frog, and then analyze all other internal and external structures to compare them to those in human body systems. Overall, the class saw a very similar digestive system between frogs and humans. Who would have thought that we share so much with these small semi-aquatic creatures?
