15 Nov 9th grade College Prep Biology class’s Project
Students in Ms. Suarez 9th grade College Prep Biology class had dove deep into the cellular world. After learning about different types of cells, their life cycles, and how cells can divide, students were given a choice on how they wanted to share their knowledge. Choices ranged from a song/rap, or poem, to a movie trailer.
The 9th graders went above and beyond and gave Ms. Suarez goosebumps! Those who rapped about cells had the entire classroom filled with energy from the rhyming to the accuracy of the content. The poems each had to convey a different mood (angry, happy, confused, funny) and were presented with so much emotion from the students. The songs were funny parodies from modern movies (Frozen) but still about cells. The movie trailers looked like actual movies with animations, characters, and voiceovers. Overall the cell project was a success.
The 9th grade students in Ms. Suarez’ Honors Biology class had just learned about macromolecules, or big molecules, such as carbs, proteins, fats, and DNA. Students delved deep into heavy note-taking for these topics as their structures were complex leading to diverse functions too. Ms. Suarez provided a 12-piece blank puzzle set for each student. The 9T class was tasked with making a mostly accurate comic about one or more of these molecules while having a tight rubric to follow. The results are shown here. Students did a phenomenal job! The puzzles were hilarious, accurate, and aesthetically pleasing.
