04 Oct TEECS Walks to School!
On Wednesday, October 2, Thomas Edison EnergySmartCharter School participated in the National Walk & Bike to School Day. TEECS’s goal is to help grow this movement locally and inspire the community to come together to promote health, air quality awareness, and safer routes to school for our students.
The school started the day off at 8:00 am at a parking lot within 10 minutes walking distance from the school. All buses and parents were asked to drop their students off at this lot and together we walked down Pierce Street to the World’s Fair Drive / Pierce Street intersection.
TEECS would like to send out a special thanks to a few organizations that helped make this event possible: to Sannova for allowing us to take over their lot for the morning, to the Franklin Township Police and Somerset County Canine Division for helping us maneuver safely through traffic and across the street, to our district’s busing (Franklin, North Brunswick, and South Brunswick) for working with us to get our students to the right location safely and on time, and to TAPinto and News12 for being there to document the event.
We would also like to thank our special guests for taking time from their busy schedules to walk with us and speak to our students about the importance of this event – Township of Franklin Councilman, Prof. Dr. Theodore Chase and Professor/Dean/Fellow at Rutgers University, Dr. Mukund Karwe.
We look forward to walking again next year!
