Thomas Edison EnergySmart School Celebrates Walk to School Event and National Spanish Heritage Month

SOMERSET, NJ—On Wednesday morning, the Thomas Edison EnergySmart School (TEES) held its annual Walk to School event, bringing together staff and students to show support for the environment.

Led by Oguz Yildiz, the lead person at TEES, the event saw students displaying signs and banners as they made their way from the Sonnova parking lot to the school soccer field.

The Franklin Township Police Department played a crucial role in the event’s success by ensuring the safety of all participants during the walk.

Once assembled on the field, the event took on special significance as Brandon, a student of the Environmental Alliance Club, delivered a passionate speech highlighting the event’s importance and positive impact on the environment.

The occasion also saw the presence of Ms. Roberta Hunter from EcoSchools/NJ Audubon, who presented TEECS’ Green Team with the prestigious EcoSchools Green Flag, the highest level of achievement in recognition of the school’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

In addition to the Walk to School Day festivities, TEECS honored National Spanish Heritage Month.

Students delivered speeches shedding light on critical Spanish figures and their contributions and showcased traditional dances as part of the celebration.

The event was a resounding success, bringing together the school community in a morning of celebration and reflection on the environment and cultural heritage.
