TTECS Students ROCKET Launch at Wisconsin – Rockets4Schools Competition

Students Achieve Successful Launch at Rockets4Schools Competition!

[SOMERSET, NJ – TEECS] – A team of five bright and dedicated students, accompanied by their coach, proudly represented Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School at the prestigious Rockets4Schools competition held in Wisconsin on May 9th and 10th. Our team achieved a successful launch, showcasing their hard work, ingenuity, and passion for STEM!.

It was a successful launch that went 5140 feet high and took 2 minutes and 47 seconds.

The Rockets4Schools competition is a dynamic and engaging program that challenges middle and high school students to design, build, and launch their own high-powered rockets. Teams, consisting of up to ten members and guided by an adult advisor, embark on a comprehensive learning journey that culminates in a thrilling launch event.

Before arriving at “Sheboygan,” our TEECS team diligently tackled several key challenges:

  • Rocket Construction: Meticulously building and finishing a Class-2 rocket kit, demonstrating their technical skills and attention to detail.
  • Payload Design: Creatively engineering and constructing a unique payload designed to explore the fascinating environment of a rocket launch – including sounds, sights, acceleration, and pressure. Our payload, as you can see in the images, was a testament to our students’ innovative thinking! Our payload focused on capturing real-time environmental data including sensors such as  Camera, Gyroscope, UV Sensor, Barometer and Temperature during the ascent. The team designed a system to visually document the launch from an internal perspective.
  • Mission Patch and Informational Display: Designing a visually appealing mission patch that represented our team’s goals and creating an informative display to share details about our rocket and, most importantly, our innovative payload experiment.
  • Rocketry Worksheet: Deepening their understanding of rocketry principles by reviewing educational materials and completing a comprehensive worksheet.

During the competition weekend, our students presented their project to a panel of judges, highlighting their rocket construction, payload design, and the valuable lessons learned throughout the process. The successful launch was a culmination of months of hard work, teamwork, and dedication.

The Rockets4Schools competition provides an invaluable hands-on learning experience, fostering a well-rounded understanding of STEM concepts through practical application and problem-solving. We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and their commitment to exploring the exciting world of rocketry and payload technology.

Stay tuned for more updates on our team’s journey and their exciting payload experiment!
