28 Nov TEECS Green TEAM at Pollinator Garden 2023-24
Ms. J Patel, the coordinator of the EAC Club, tasked the students with a service project: creating a pollinator garden on previously unused land. Both middle and high school students from EAC accepted this challenge and, guided by Ms. J. Patel, initiated their efforts in March 2023 to locate suitable land within a one-mile radius of the school. By June 2023, a contract for the land at 625 New Brunswick Road, Somerset, NJ, was finalized between TEECS and the Somerset County Parks Commission.
The dedicated EAC club students devoted their time and effort diligently to develop the pollinator garden over recent Mondays. Taking advantage of favorable daytime temperatures, a planting ceremony for the perennials was scheduled for Monday, November 27th at 3:00 PM.
TEECS extends its heartfelt gratitude to the parent community, as some parents generously sponsored plants and contributed to fundraising efforts for purchasing the perennials.
The creation of this pollinator garden serves a twofold purpose. Not only does it function as a valuable educational resource for students, teaching them about the crucial role of pollinators, but it also provides an essential habitat for bees, butterflies, and birds.
